We all have to host our websites and blogs some place and being aware that the internet uses a lot of power we needed to find a more sustainable way to have a presence on the internet.

So we started Irish Solar - a green web hosting service.

Specialising in Joomla and  Wordpress we can design the look of  your site through our design site ethicalspider.com or install any one of the free themes or templates that  are available on the web.

It became apparent that a lot of the so called green hosting people are not all that green and unfortunately there is no data center that is completely off-grid (making it's own power).

That leaves us with two choices
1. A data center using solar PV
2. A data center using a Certified REC

The first one is the best in terms of being green however they are expensive and as far as we can find out there are only 3 data centre companies making their own electricity with solar pv. Lots of hosting sites claming they are solar powered but when you look closley they are using one of these 3 companies and just reselling.

We don't resell, we do the ground work for you and set up your site on what we think is the best service so we are not affiliated to any data center.

The second option is the cheaper of the two and there are a few of them around. The best system seems to be companies that use Certified RECs. This server is running on one of these data centers.

This seems to be the best solution at the moment for keeping the carbon footprint of the internet down as low as possible and until someone builds an off-grid server we are stuck with these options
